History of Kajukenbo

Kajukenbo is a dynamic hybrid martial art that combines the strengths of Karate, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Kenpo, and Chinese Boxing (Kung Fu).  Developed in 1947 at the Palama Settlement in Oahu, Hawaii, Kajukenbo was created by five martial arts Grandmasters who united their disciplines to form a practical and effective self-defense system.

Born in Hawaii, Built for the Streets

Kajukenbo was created in 1947 in Oahu’s Palama Settlement to defend against real-world violence.

Five Masters, One Vision

The name Kajukenbo reflects its roots: Karate, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Kenpo, and Chinese Boxing.

From Local Defense to Global Legacy

What began as a street-defense system in Hawaii has grown into a worldwide martial arts movement.

Our Origins

Founded in 1999, Embrun Family Karate Club has been a proud part of the Embrun, Ontario community for over two decades. What began as a small group of dedicated martial artists has grown into a thriving dojo that welcomes students of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. We encourage the entire family to participate to continue building on the club tradition of thriving together.

Club Programs

Over the years, the club has expanded its programs to include Little Dragons for young children, Junior classes for teens and adult self-defense classes, and a competitive team that represents the dojo at regional and national events. Through it all, the heart of the club remains the same—a commitment to community, excellence, and lifelong learning.
